Once saved, always saved!

I’ve just read on another blog where yet another hardline Christian makes the statement that “there is no such thing as once saved always saved*. Do not deceive yourselves…”

I disagree. I believe that once saved, is always saved.

It simply must be.

If our salvation depends *in any way* on us; on our flesh – and in that I include behaviour, belief, anything we can *do* or *think* that will somehow negate our salvation – then what right do we have to rejoice in our salvation?

Because if there is any way we can lose our salvation by something we do or think, then it’s a shaky salvation indeed. And we would have no cause to rejoice in such a salvation.

But, praise God, its *He* who is in charge of your salvation! From the moment you accepted Him, it became His responsibility to look after your interests in the salvation stakes.

It’s up to Him to transform you, up to Him to lead you; all you need to do is to follow and obey. The trips and falls you suffer on the way will never, can never, make you lose your salvation. Would you send your toddler son off to be punished for stumbling as he learns to walk? I think not….how much more, then, will Father God be gracious and patient with His children?

“Amazing love, immense and free | For O, my God, it found out me!” – Charles Wesley

*Definition: ‘Once saved, always saved’, means that once a person is ‘saved’ by becoming a Christian, he/she cannot ever lose that status.

  1. Great article, i believe the same. Ive been reading posts on blogs from whack jobs for days now. I feel in my heart that Gods love for me is eternal, that my salvation was eternal the moment i accepted Jesus. I was saved when i was 8, remember it like it was yesterday, even at that age i begin to feel true conviction for the first time. It has been a rollercoaster ride to say the least, but I think every true christian that isn’t lying to themselves can say that. Now in my 30’s, i have become more willing to learn what is expected of me, my purpose. How wonderful it is to know i can rejoice in my salvation without fearing that one sin or action can take it away. Thank you for your article.

    1. Hi Adam and thanks so much for your comment. I’m so glad the article has blessed you! I would emphasise that if God has spoken this to your heart, don’t listen to anyone who wants to take it away from you. Quite often, these people are insecure in their own faith, which leads them to think that way. But for you, hold what God has spoken to you close to your heart!

Thanks again for your comment 🙂

  2. Hi my name is Laura and from the time I was born I believe that god has always had his hand open my life. You would have to know my whole story to understand. When at the age of 21 I became involved with the Children Of God cult only to find myself in deep water 13 years later with 6 children. I was deceived in believing that to give your body to those that don’t know Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice to save a soul. I’m no longer a part of that group been free from them for 25 years…praise god! But I still struggle with the sins of the flesh and was wondering if I should seek out godly counsel somewhere? But the truth is the don’t know who to trust when sharing the pain I still struggle with. I have doubts believing at times well maybe I wasn’t saved and this is why these things happened. But when I sit down and commune in my heart I hear the still small voice of Jesus saying child I had never left you.

    1. Hi Laura and thanks for your vulnerable sharing of this. I too don’t know who to trust in human terms, but to go deeper into what you have written, it sounds as if you could be helped by counselling for religious trauma. This is essentially what you have suffered with for all these years, by the looks of it.

My suggestion would therefore be to find a counsellor or therapist local to you, who specialises in religious trauma. Once you find some counsellors who do this, research them and read references about them from others who have used their services. And don’t worry if you don’t find the right counsellor straight away; sometimes you might need to try a few before you find one that ‘clicks’ with you. Hope that helps 😀
